Special guest of Congress and dramatic interlude of the Special Symposium:

Djerassi Carl, Stanford University, USA, author of "Insufficiency"

INSUFFICIENCY -- A play in 10 scenes

Staged dramatic reading directed by Zdenek Havlas Jr. of Djerassi's  newest "science-in-theatre" play dealing with the science of "bubbleology" as applied to champagne and beer with a few digs along the way at the foibles of academic publishing, academic snobbery, and academic tenure. An apt illustration of  themes pertaining to the “Ethics in Science - Chemistry and Ethics” Congress special topic, but actually of relevance to the entire chemical community.

Funding Chemistry in Europe

28 August 2012 from 10:30 am to 1 pm

Prague Congress Centre, Room KLUB B, First Floor

The Symposium shall provide an introduction and the discussion of different funding programmes on a European level. The programmes presented are designed to support individuals in carrying out their research as well as instruments which promote transnational collaboration in Europe. These are for example the programmes by the European Research Council (ERC) or PEOPLE, an instrument within the 7th framework programme by the European Commission, which primarily support individuals. Exemplary for the advancement of transnational collaboration, activities within ERA-Nets, such as ERA-Chemistry and ERA-IB, or the programme COOPERATION of the European Commission (7th framework programme) are presented.

Speakers include amongst others:

Dr. Antonella Di Trapani, Ph.D., European Research Council
Prof. Sijbren Otto, University of Groningen
Prof. Luisa de Cola, University of Münster
Petra Perutková, European Commission – Czech National Contact Point Prague
Prof. Paolo Samorì, University of Strasbourg
